Wooden tiles spelling out mental health

Mind Your Head

7th – 11th November 2022

A series of events exploring mental health and how faith interact.

The media, mental health charities and academic studies have all tentatively explored how religion and faith can play important roles in supporting mental wellbeing. But how can we separate myths around mental health from the facts?

During ‘Mind Your Head’ week, we hope the events and seminars on offer may help equip all of us to better support the mental health of ourselves and others, by better understanding what our mental health is, how to support others in need, and the important role that the church as a community has to play in giving people in need a place to belong.

Whether you are seeking practical advice, stories of hope or simply the space to stop and consider your own faith and mental wellbeing, these events are open to all.

What’s On

Monday 7th – Seminar: What is Mental Health?

1pm, The Hub Cafe

‘Mental health’ and related phrases are quickly becoming part of our everyday conversation – but what do we understand it to actually mean? Naomi Duff, a professional counsellor, will help us to get past the myths and misconceptions to get a real sense of the facts and what they mean for us and those around us.

Wednesday 9th – Seminar: How To Be A Friend

1pm, The Hub Cafe

Lesley Donaldson, the Hub’s Community Team Leader, will explore practical and helpful advice for walking alongside those we know and love who need support on their mental health journey.

Wednesday 9th – Event: Stories of Hope

7.30pm, Church of the Resurrection

Come and hear individual stories of people who have lived with mental health challenges, their hope and what they have learnt along the way.

Kintugi Hope is charity based in the UK striving to make a difference to people’s mental wellbeing. We will be joined by Joel, Caitlin and Lydia from their staff team.

We will also be joined by doctor and author Sharon Hastings, who has written profoundly about her own journey of severe and enduring mental illness.

We will also have a book stall manned by our friends at The Book Well, stocked with resources covering some of the topics discussed.

Thursday 10th – Seminar with Kintsugi Hope

1pm, The Hub Cafe

Joel Harris, Caitlin Kelly and Lydia Bridgeman from Kintsugi Hope will share more of the charity’s work and explore resources and opportunities for students and young people to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of themselves and others.

Friday 11th – Quiet Service

1pm, Church of the Resurrection

A short act of worship, combining personal reflection with prayer for others. Whether for ourselves, or those we know and love, we hope to lift up those who need support because of their personal relationship with mental health issues.
