A group of people raising money for charity

Women of Waakisa fundraising success

After our lenten campaign saw dozens of people walking, running, cycling, hiking, rowing, swimming – and more! – to raise money for our charity partners Waakisa, we are delighted to confirm that not only did we collectively surpass our 6000 miles target, but vital funds were raised for the work in Uganda.

After collectively travelling 6,076.75 miles together, our participants managed to raised over £4,685 for Waakisa.

Fundraising popped up in all sorts of forms, including literally – with the popular ‘pop up’ shop in The Hub Cafe generating lots of interest from students and passers by.

The congregation of the Church of the Resurrection also held a special Sunday morning, taking to the streets as a church to boost the 6000 Miles challenge through walking, running and cycling.

Valerie Duff from Waakisa was delighted be able to thank all who were involved in fundraising. The charity aims to provide care and support to young vulnerable girls who are pregnant and alone, and to deliver health education programmes to local schools and churches based in the East African country – and that work is where every penny of the funds raised will go.
